Letter from the Superintendent's Office

October 14, 2021

Dear MSD Community:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, our homecoming weekend plans have changed. Because creating a true and safe homecoming experience for our students is our priority, our homecoming events will extend into next week with our athletic games and additional activities for high school students.

Our Homecoming Day for Saturday, October 16, has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Silver Oak Academy football team.

Tomorrow morning's Pep Rally for high school students will go ahead as scheduled. The junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams will host the Frederick High School Cadets in the afternoon as scheduled with the senior recognition ceremony to follow after the varsity match. However, this athletic contest will not be the homecoming match.

Instead, our high school volleyball teams will kick off the homecoming athletic games on Monday, October 18, against Model Secondary School for the Deaf. Our varsity cheer team invites the fans in attendance to Monday's volleyball matches to come dressed in pink and join them in honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Due to limited capacity in the Benson Gym, attendance to the volleyball matches tomorrow and on Monday is limited to immediate family members/household members of home and visiting teams and MSD high school students. For those unable to attend the game in person, the volleyball matches will be available on livestream.

Randolph-Macon Academy, our opponent scheduled for an away game on Friday, October 22, also needed to cancel because of personnel concerns within their program. This cancellation has allowed us to schedule a homecoming football game next week, with the date, time, and location to be announced when details are finalized by the athletic department. This football game will still be open to the public and feature vendor booths, a halftime performance by our cheerleaders, and the crowning of Homecoming Royalty. More information will be shared shortly.

Because the pandemic is still very much prevalent in our area, we must remain flexible and understanding of given circumstances. We are determined to do everything we can to make homecoming possible for our community, and we are hopeful these plans will remain.

Should there be any questions regarding Homecoming, please contact Andy Bonheyo at andy.bonheyo@msd.edu and Janna DiBiase at janna.dibiase@msd.edu.

Thank you.
