Zion Ortiz Named NDIAA Div. 1 Male Athlete of the Year

This outstanding recognition is a testament to Zion's exceptional athletic abilities, unwavering dedication, and remarkable achievements throughout the year.

Zion's incredible talent and versatility were on full display as he participated in an impressive range of sports, including football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and track and field. In each of these sports, his exceptional performances earned him a spot on the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) All-American First Team, highlighting his consistent excellence across multiple disciplines.

Notably, Zion garnered national attention for his outstanding skills, earning first-team honors in the football, basketball, wrestling, and baseball leagues. His remarkable skills on the field led to him being named the Keystone State Football League Offensive Player of the Year. Furthermore, he received accolades such as the Frederick News Post December Male Athlete of the Month and inclusion in the Frederick News Post All-County Football First Team Defense, further solidifying his status as an extraordinary athlete.

Moreover, Zion's journey to this achievement has been truly inspiring. Overcoming a devastating ACL injury suffered during the 2021-2022 school year, he has shown resilience, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. Zion has become a role model within our school community, illustrating the power of passion, dedication, and commitment to excellence.

Zion's remarkable achievements mark him as the sixth male athlete in the history of MSD to receive this esteemed award. Taking into account both male and female recipients, Zion joins a select group of just twelve winners in the school's history.

Please join us in celebrating Zion Ortiz's remarkable success and extending our heartfelt congratulations to him for this well-deserved recognition. His accomplishments not only bring great pride to himself but also honor our esteemed school.

Congratulations, Zion!
